It’s the beginning of another great week with so many blessings in it. Welcome to the week and set your sight on the important things, the things that can build you and improve your chances of achieving your goals for the rest of the year.
This week, we’re starting a short series for the rest of the month to talk about the four undisputable dimensions of human life and why each of these dimensions is important to your self-esteem and confidence.
In his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey mentioned four dimensions of human life that everyone must constantly focus on to have a wholesome life. The physical dimension, the mental dimension, the social/emotional dimension and the spiritual dimension. You can list them in whatever order you want but these four dimensions of life are equally important for growth, preservation and building yourself into something great in life.
The four dimensions are interdependent and one dimension will have either a positive or negative impact on the other dimensions, this is why all these dimensions deserve balanced attention in building a wholesome life.
I’ve decided to start with the physical dimension because as important as the body is, it’s one aspect of life that people ignore the most, people are concerned about their mental health, their finance, their relationship with God and all that but they don’t feel too alarmed if they’re going out of shape until their physical health deteriorates into a state where it needs urgent attention.
The Body is the House.
If you’re uncomfortable in your home, everything else about you will suffer. There must be a level of constant peace and comfort that the home provides, when this peace and comfort is missing, it will negatively affect every other thing about the person.
I got into my apartment sometimes ago and walked into the kitchen where I met several dirty dishes left there by my friend and house-mate, almost smelling, at first I ignored it, but the picture of the dirty kitchen in my head made me so uncomfortable to the extent that I couldn’t relax in my room, I felt uncomfortable until I decided to clean and tidy up the kitchen.
The body is your house and you must feel comfortable in it to carry yourself in the right way – no matter the gifts you have, no matter the motivation or the excellent spirit that you carry, if your body is not at the optimum level, you will not be able to operate at your best.
If your body doesn’t allow you to operate at your best level, it will affect your confidence and the way you see yourself and these are the things that impact the level of your self-esteem.
An untidy house will affect the person and everything living in it, it will attract rodents and other harmful creatures, this is how the body is, in the four dimensions of having an amazing life, if you do not take care of your body which represents the physical dimension, you’ll attract things that will hurt all the other dimensions because the body is the house that gives residence to every other dimension in your life.
The house must be kept clean, and the house must be taken care of if you want to enjoy your stay in it, unhealthy practices will attract sicknesses and other things that will not make you enjoy your body, and when you’re not enjoying your body, you’ll lack confidence which will show in the way you carry yourself, and this is something that will hurt your self-esteem.
In the Image that you’re Proud of.
One of the most important things about your physical dimension is that you’re proud of your image as a person. Your carriage and confidence will reflect how much you’re proud of your physical appearance, which will also affect your self-esteem.
Your physical image has two dimensions to it, remember that physical appearance is not just how you feel in your body but also how you look and how you appear.
The first dimension of your physical appearance is the dimension that you cannot change. There are some aspects of your appearance that you can’t change, either through exercise, diet or technology, and there is nothing you can do about it, these are the aspect of your appearance that you must learn to accept and carry in a way that doesn’t hurt your confidence, when it comes to these aspects of your physical appearance, what you need to learn is acceptance.
The second dimension of your physical appearance is the aspect that you can do something about. These are things about yourself that you can easily change to look better, for example, the way you dress or exercise and diet to reduce weight – these aspects are the parts where you have to discipline yourself to look better.
There are parts of your physical appearance that you have to accept unless you’re praying for a miracle, there is nothing anyone can do about it, accept it, proudly carry yourself and live confidently while there are other parts that you can work on to look better – you can’t go around looking down on yourself because of your appearance when you can work on it and look better.
It's your responsibility to build an image that you’re proud of, how you look is your responsibility and you must do it in a way that helps your confidence.
Health is Wealth.
The whole talent, the social and emotional technique to bring people together and the spiritual maturity to lead will all go to waste without good health. This is the true meaning of “health is wealth.” The physical dimension represents how you feel in your body (health) and how you carry yourself (appearance) it’s the part of the four dimensions that house everything else, without it, nothing else can function.
Eat well and exercise, physical exercise is where a lot of people give the most excuse and it’s one of the undisputable parts that is profitable for your health. A consistent 20mins workout in your room every day will go a long way in keeping you healthy.
Invest in taking care of yourself, take care of your health and look good, the physical dimension of your life is important to the way you carry yourself which is the reflection of the level of your self-esteem.
Take care of yourself.
